Sea Turtle Hatchlings

I have such a good job..... 
A turtle laid 5 nests on the beach near my workplace and the first hatchlings emerged sunday night. We dug the nest the next morning and found 27 hatchlings that had troubles getting to the surface. So we took them and after measuring and weighting we released them on the beach. They crawled their way to the ocean and we helped the weakest to find their way.
It is one of the most magical thing I'd ever experienced and it is something I like to share with my friend as well (like I did with Harold who came to see them and he loved it)

I have two new housemate from France and they want to discover the charm of Reunion Island....That is not a problem!! I haven't had much time to re discover my island as well, so I thought it will be a good idea to go along with them.
We chose a nice and easy hike in the forest and it was quite pleasant. I usually go surfing during the week end....so I don't see much apart from the sea (not that I complain, but it is good to change sometimes!)
We saw an endemic tree that was 400 years old

We don't change a dream team!
Denis allowed me to organise a M-party at his place....The day didn't start really well, I woke up with winter at my door! Wind and rain from 6am means a bad day ahead weather speaking. It was supposed to be a day at the beach with my family: screwed! They came and we made the best we could out of this day. It was my birthday and mother's day.
At night I celebrate my birthday with my friend at Denis'. For this special occasion the theme was a letter : M as in Marie......

Next day at work, I saw the top of a big bin in one of the pool and thought about the poor turtles that were swimming into the dirty water. The set of pictures was taken by my friend Julie and it shows how I tried to get this thing out....Wasn't easy!! I had to drop my pants down (sorry, no picture of that) and get in the water to get the bin out....Soooo much fun

Swell from Hell

Things are worse than we thought. Two big sets went through during the night and caused a lot of damages. Several houses and restaurants built on the beach were partially or entirely destroyed. My work place got badly damaged. The care center was composed of 20 pools in wich we placed 1 turtle each. It not longer exists.....We have at least three turtles missing. I saw the picture on the newspaper and it was horrible to see. I was near to tears....Things got cleaned up but the pump still doesn’t work and it needs to be fixed quite quickly.
The skatepark is full of stones...One of the module (a big one) got moved by the wave....
We admired the waves from a distance. Despite it all, I love when these natural event happen....It makes you feel so small...Bad for our human ego, isn’t it?

Leu Tempo Festival - Fèt dan somin

17h30 : waking up from my nap, it was time to go to the festival with my partner in crime Fanny…As I drove down to ther place, I witnessed the arrival of this massive swell. I knew from windguru that an unusual big swell was forecast that night, but I didn’t know how big it was going to be. It was impressive to see, but no one really expected it to get bigger than this. And it was already pretty big. My favourite surfspot turned into a cruel washing machine.....fascinating to watch.
20h30: The festival is going well, the entire street is closed down and we can wander around looking for food, drink, friends and concerts. People dancing in the streets, battucada and lots of music were the main ingredients of the nights. Looooove it!
00h00: things start to get dirty. I hear from a friend that some of her friends wanted to park along the beach and got stopped by a massive wave that came to the top of the beach. What?? The waves are cranking up. I walked up to my car to get it out of the rage of the waves. Thank God it was ok. I just got lots of dirt (sand anf leaves on it). Man, I couldn’t imagine how big the wave was! I was very curious to see how it looked like. The lagoon is not big but it is supposed to be here to act as a buffer zone. Car is ok, me too....Time to go home. I will see the waves tomorrow.

I have rarely eaten that much in one meal….The price was rather correct for a buffet: food at will!!! Aaaargh!!! My friend and I were accompanied by 2 cuties and we had a rather fun night, eating a lot....
Next day, Donovan insisted on going surfing all day. I said I was gonna come with them in the morning but will stay home in the afternoon. I had to get up at 6am on a Saturday for Heaven’s Sake!!! It’ almost a crime....no wait....it is a crime! Anyway, it was for a good cause. It took us almost 2 hours to find a decent spot to surf at. We eventually found one but had to paddle in because it was getting windier. And we did well, cause in the afternoon a gigantic swell came through.....
